Background

Eleven years ago, I met Jake Hoyt. Contrary to popular belief, Jake isn’t the saint he is professed to be. From the very beginning, I could tell I would have major problems with this so-called “officer of the law”.

My duty on the day that I met Jake was to take him with me on my daily circuit. I had many cases to deal with, and was even looking forward to the extra help in some of my investigations. I entered the situation open-minded, looking to teach what I know to an upcoming cop aspiring to be an undercover narcotics agent like myself.
The unfortunate truth to the situation is that nothing with Jake ended up being as easy as I had hoped it would be. He was unruly, disregarding the law and personal morals. Training ended that day, and I had accomplished nothing with this childish police wannabe.
Only a year after our training day gone wrong, I learned that Jake Hoyt had a close friend working for Warner Bros. Entertainment. He set up a meeting between Jake and an up and coming director looking to make a name for himself, Antoine Fuqua. You can probably guess what happened next…
Resenting the fact that I wouldn’t let him recklessly break the law during his time in training, he told the story of our day together from his perspective. The first problem was his “perspective” was all lies. The second was that his lies ended up being a box office hit. Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke held the number one spot in theatres for three straight weeks.
Now, you can obviously see that I didn’t die at the end of my day with Jake, but people don’t seem to care much. Today, I am persecuted for crimes that I never even committed. I can’t even walk my children to school without a snide remark on the sidewalks of Los Angeles – from complete strangers, usually. I am unwelcome in many restaurants, neighborhoods, and stores.
Jake Hoyt has severely tainted my image, and I have suffered long enough over one man’s dishonesty and selfishness. This is my chance to get the truth out. This is my chance to show the world Jake Hoyt, the real villain, and the real Training Day.
